General Tips for your RV
PRO TIPS:
- We recommend storing your RV indoors. However, if storing outdoors, we recommend keeping your RV under a roof and use of an RV cover to prevent uneven and extended sun exposure or indirect sunlight.
- If your RV will be in direct sunlight for an extended period of time, we recommend rotating your RV so that sun exposure is evenly distributed.
- We recommend removing tar, bugs, sap and bird droppings as soon as possible to prevent staining

- Where can I buy cleaning supplies for my RV’s sidewall?
Any RV store, automotive supply store, or online/home centers - What RV soap do you recommend?
Any automotive or RV soap that is mild and does not contain any harsh abrasives or acids is ok to use. Some of our favorites are listed here. - What happens if my sidewall gets scratched?
Scratches are the most common damage an RV suffers. Many of these can be removed with rubbing compound, followed by wax. Major repairs should be referred to a professional. You can reference our Repair Guide here. - How do I restore gloss to sidewall?
If the surface has been allowed to weather badly, and cleaning and wax polishing does not restore the finish satisfactorily, then compounding will be necessary. Polishing compound (fine abrasive) or rubbing compound (coarser abrasive) is recommended for use on fiberglass RVs to remove scratches, stains, or a severely weathered surface. Indoor storage is the most protective type of storage and allows your RV to remain in a fully enclosed building. Outdoor storage leaves your RV exposed to the elements. It’s best to use some type of cover when storing your RV outdoors. Covered storage offers the protection of a roof and sometimes partial wall protection. When using covered storage, attempt to have your RV parked as far away from open walls as possible to avoid UV exposure. - How often should I wash my RV?
We recommend washing your RV, at least every 3 months or more frequently as needed. We recommend removing tar, bugs, sap and bird droppings as soon as possible to prevent staining. - How often should I wax my RV?
We recommend waxing your RV, at least every 6 months. - What is the paint code for my sidewall?
This is an important distinction to make! Gelcoat color and paint code color are two separate things. Our gelcoat colors do not correlate to any specific paint code. Should damage occur to your non-painted sidewall and you need to have a professional paint repair done, a national paint company, like Sherwin Williams, can work to match the gelcoat color.
